For SMBs, browser extensions can dramatically improve productivity and security—but only when they’re deployed consistently and managed centrally. Relying on employees to install extensions themselves leads to unpredictable results, security gaps, and troubleshooting headaches.
In this guide, you’ll learn how to install Microsoft Edge and Chrome extensions using Intune silently, without any user interaction.
Why Deploy Browser Extensions with Intune?
Using Intune to deploy extensions helps you:
Enforce security‑critical extensions (e.g., password managers)
Block unwanted or risky extensions
Standardize browser configurations across all employees
Reduce credential theft and data leakage
Speed up onboarding for new devices and users
Whether you use Chrome, Edge, or both—Intune gives you centralized control.
Step 1 — Get the Extension IDs for Edge and Chrome
You must collect Extension ID for each browser.
For Microsoft Edge
Open the Microsoft Edge Add‑ons Store - Microsoft Edge Add-ons
Search for any extension.
Copy the last part of the URL:

For Google Chrome
Open the Chrome Web Store - https://chromewebstore.google.com/
Search for Bitwarden.
Copy the last string from the URL.
Step 2 — Create the Intune Configuration Profile
Go to Microsoft Intune Admin Center
Navigate to: Devices → Windows → Configuration Profiles
Click Create profile
Choose:
Platform: Windows 10/11
Profile type: Settings Catalog
Name it clearly: Browser Extensions Deployment – Chrome & Edge
Inside your new Settings Catalog profile:
Click Add settings
Search for Edge and open: Microsoft Edge → Extensions
Enable: Control which extensions are installed silently
Search for Google Chrome and select: Google → Google Chrome → Extensions
Enable: Extension/App IDs and update URLs to be silently installed (Device)
Add Extension ID in each value field.
In Assignments:
For security extensions like Bitwarden → assign to All Users
For specific teams → assign to a security group
For shared/kiosk systems → assign to device groups
Click Next → Create. Once applied, the policy silently installs the extensions.
